The Czech Double Reed Symposium will take place for the sixth time in 2024 in Prague, Czech Republic. We are inviting lecturers and leading manufacturers of oboes and bassoons to Prague on the weekend of November again.

A conversation with the winners of ARD München
This year’s ARD München brought great results – the Czech ensemble Alinde Quintet became the laureate in the wind quintet field.
The oboist Štěpánka Andělová also took part in the competition, and the jury included Jana Brožková. Jiří Zelba will lead the discussion with these participants, which will concern the preparation for one of the most demanding music competitions in the world and its course.

MD Pavel Drbal: Correct breathing and posture
Specialist MUDr. Pavel Drbal has been dedicated to medicine and the rehabilitation of musicians for many years.
In his lecture, he will explain the basic anatomical and functional principles of posture and breathing. He will explain in detail the function of the diaphragm and its importance not only in the breathing process, but also its essential role for correct posture. On a theoretical level and with the help of practical examples and exercises, it will clarify how correct posture can prevent functional and irreversible structural disorders of the musculoskeletal system and how it can also improve the technical abilities of musicians.

Carlo Colombo:
French music and competition preparation
What are the interpretation requirements of French music? What to expect and what to think about when I play a piece by a French author?How to prepare for an international music competition and a similar peak performance?
Bassoonist Carlo Colombo will speak about similar topics as part of the symposium. In his two-hour space, he will perform Camille Saint-Saens‘ Sonata, Charles René’s Solo de Concert or lead a masterclass with one of the preselected students.

Excursion to the exhibitors
A guided tour of the entire exhibition of musical instruments and accessories will take place twice during the morning for a group of up to 10 people. Jan Hoďánek, who is the main organizer of the exhibition, will lead the group around all the exhibitors and together with the exhibitor will present the brand and its products. For the tour, you must register in advance on the day of the symposium at the entrance/desk of the ČSDN.

Tour of Rudolfinum

The unique spaces of the Rudolfinum hide many places associated with events in Czech history and famous artists.
Do you want to see the Dvořák Hall, the representative lounges or the newly renovated premises used by the Czech Philharmonic? Would the view of Prague from the most interesting places of the Rudolfinum attract you? The founder of ČSDN, Vladislav Borovka, will be happy to show you around the Rudolfinum.

The Festive Concert of Double-Reed Instrument
The Festive concert od double-reeds brings a unique musical experience to lovers of the tones of oboes and bassoons. Talented young players from the Czech world of double-reed instruments, laureates of the ČSDN Interpretation Competition 2023, will perform solo at the concert. Visitors can also look forward to a large Doube-Reed Ensemble led by bassoonist Tomáš Františ.
Players of double-reed instruments are cordially invited to perform as part of the double-reed orchestra at the concert. Those who will play in a double-reed ensemble have entry to the entire Sunday program for a symbolic 100 CZK.
